27 Apr 2010 (Morning event)
9:30 - 12:00 (lunch until 12:45)
EMFEC, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

| Brief Details: | This session will clarify how copyright law applies in the education context. It will outline how learning objects and learning materials can be lawfully used and re-used and will include guidance on using licenses to ensure the quality and sustainability of learning resources. |
| Information: | Without a clear understanding of how copyright law operates those that are involved in generating and delivering teaching resources will be unable to take full advantage of the opportunities that e-learning environments provide. Learners expect resource rich environments that are current and relevant to their education. Innovation in learning requires expertise in pedagogy and also an appreciation of the limits that intellectual property law places on the use and re-use of learning content particularly when working in collaboration with others. This event is being delivered by our sister organisation JISC Legal. This session will finish with lunch and an opportunity to network with colleagues. There is an afternoon session on "Using Social Networking and Web 2.0 technologies lawfully in education" on the same day that may also be of interest. JISC Advance Event Series This event is part of the JISC Advance Event Series being organised by RSC East Midlands. In the first half of 2010 we are celebrating the creation of JISC Advance with a series of free events that highlight the expertise of the eight individual JISC services that come under the JISC Advance umbrella. These events are designed to provide practical knowledge for delegates and introduce them to the services on offer from JISC Advance. We are able to offer supported learning providers subsidised places for the duration of this series only. There is a maximum of 1 place per learning provider per event. There is also a fair use policy to ensure a spread of places across individuals and organisations. For more information on JISC Advance go to www.jiscadvance.ac.uk.
