    Programme for event: e-asy Assessment

    17 May 2010

    13:35

Designing multiple choice questions and feedback

Phil Race continues from his keynote by looking into multiple-choice questionnaires (MCQ) design and giving students appropriate feedback. MCQs are often used in assessment as they are quick and easy to administer.

However there are many pitfalls in the design and selection of questions. This workshop will look into simple solutions that will make your assessments valid and reliable.

Phil will also help you explore into how feedback forms an important part of the students' learning. This will cover ideas and tactics to make feedback work.

Speaker: Phil Race, Leeds Metropolitan University
    Curriculum design

Mark Russell is a Principal lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. His teaching and learning interests are varied, and include exploring the effective use of technologies to support in-class activities, developing collaborative learning opportunities and developing innovative tools for electronic-assessment.

Mark will help you explore your organisational culture and how it has an impact on curriculum design. He will use the story of CABLE (Change Academy for Blended Learning Enhancement) to outline issues and suggest solutions like the reverse brainstorming technique. "How would you increase the student failure rate at your institution?"

Speaker: Mark Russell, University of Hertfordshire
    Assessment for reflection workshop

Martin Jenkins and this team at the (CETL funded) Centre for Active Learning at the University of Gloucestershire have been researching and developing approaches for digital storytelling for a number of years. A number of successful case studies which have utilised this innovative and creative method of assessing reflection will be shared.

Martin will introduce delegates to the model of digital storytelling, associated rubrics and methods for implementation across any discipline.

Speaker: Martin Jenkins, University of Gloucestershire
Creative assessment to help eliminate plagiarism

Academic plagiarism is changing with the development of new technologies. Ian Lindsay is an Academic Advisor with extensive experience in staff development and programme design.

This workshop will explore the issue of plagiarism and explore tools for assessment design such as argument mapping and a number of technological solutions that enhance assessment creativity and reinforce higher level skills.
