Supporting Inclusion with Technology: Introduction

The Equality Act gives us a reason to review the potential of technology to support equality of opportunity for everyone. Providers now need to be pro-active in ensuring that everyone has access to their service. Technology supports the most flexible service delivery through remote access, mobile learning, and accessible 24-hour learning platforms that can reach the widest possible audience. This webinar series will introduce the four key areas where technology can help embed inclusive practice and provide some very practical ways to get started. The introductory session will look at the key indicators for embedding inclusion. This introductory session is being presented by Julia Taylor, RSC Advisor in the South West region.

Supporting Inclusion with Technology: Accessible e-texts

Creating an accessible infrastructure will ensure that you have accessible learning objects and platforms, tools and e-books and therefore give a greater access of your service to learners. As organisations strive to be inclusive, libraries and learning centres have never been more accessible. Technology can support access for the widest group of learners if you have an accessible website, learning objects, platforms and tools. This session will consider questions like: •	E-book readers and platforms may give access to more texts or make them more portable, but how readable are they? •	How easy is it to find information on your website or find and use resources on the student portal or VLE? •	Once found how easy are resources to download, adapt and use? Can learners get alternative formats or assistive software? Join this session to find out about workarounds, alternatives and accessible options! This session is being presented by Julia Taylor, RSC Advisor in the South West region.

Supporting Inclusion with Technology: Self-Assessment

Developing a culture of accessibility need be neither costly nor time consuming. In line with the Equality Act 2010 all staff has a responsibility to ensure that key relationships are developed between roles within the institution so that successes are fully exploited. The Online Self-evaluation Service (OASES) is designed to provide a way of benchmarking your accessibility practices to widely accept 'reasonable adjustment' recommendations as well as the practice within other providers. The service is quick, free and anonymous. Providers can help to overcome barriers to access in a number of technology-related ways. This session is an overview and due to the time constraint will only be an outline of the service, surveys and expected outcomes. It is recommended that a full evaluation is carried out with your local RSC). The session will: •	Briefly outline the OASED service and how it works; •	Identify the JISC TechDis materials available such as the video and surveys; •	Discuss how this would be of benefit to you as a learning provider; •	Discuss how the results may help to feed into the revision of practice.
